ECO PROGRAM

Study Eco Education, Eco Tours, Eco Volunteer for a week in one of the top 5 bio-diverse environments in the world

Eco Education is now in everyone’s interest.  Take advantage of the fantastic rainforests, beaches and animals right here on the Gold Coast!  This is a great course for Eco-lovers or ones who need something different in a short period of time.

• Start dates: 7 March, 21 March, 22 August, 5 September 2011
• Duration: 1 week
• English requirement: Communicative English (Intermediate or above is desirable)
• Minimum number of students to open a program: 4
• Maximum number of students: 10 at one time

Schedule

(Schedule subject to change due to weather or other unforeseeable reasons.)

Day 1:

• Introduction to Environmental Science
• Nature Interpretation (Visit Burleigh Heads - where the forest meets the ocean)

$3.80 is added to the fee to make this program carbon neutral! This money will be donated to a not for profit organisation to reduce and offset greenhouse gas emissions associated with the eco program. This offset will be in the form of planting trees which will also support re-vegetation projects and contribute to biodiversity restoration.

Day 2: World Heritage-Listed Rainforest Visit

• Springbrook National Park (bush walk) - introduction to Ecotourism and Australia flora and fauna
• Star gazing. (Find the Milky Way and Southern Cross)

Day 3: Australian Wildlife (Animals) and Ecotourism

• Visit Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and see koalas and kangaroos
• Learn about successful sustainable tour

Day 4: Eco Volunteer and Sustainable Lifestyle Unit

• Become familiar with the Water Monitoring program  and conduct micro-vertebrate assessment
• Contribute your results to the Gold Coast Council’s water watch program
• Visit an Eco village and learn how to create a sustainable lifestyle

Day 5: Marine Ecology

• Kayak the local waterways and learn about the area’s marine ecology.  What can mangroves do?  How do humans cause damage to the marine environment?
